Learning application

Chess Coach

Chess Coach grew out of a simple learning problem: an evaluation can tell you that a position changed without explaining what you should understand from it.

Personal training prototype and interface development

The experience

The local React application includes legal moves, an evaluation bar, several difficulty levels, opening practice, short coaching explanations and a progress page. The aim is to bring playing and reviewing closer together instead of making feedback a separate task.

The part I care about

I want the explanation of a move to be short enough to use during practice and specific enough to teach something. A suggested move is more useful when the reason behind it is understandable. This makes the quality and timing of feedback as important as the number displayed on the evaluation bar.

Learning through a demanding game

Chess gives the project a useful test: the rules are clear, but the reasons behind decisions can be difficult to communicate. Working on the interface means deciding what to show immediately, what to leave for later and how to keep the board readable.

Current scope

The project is a personal local prototype built with React and TypeScript. Further ideas include clearer turning-point analysis and more concise explanations of the best next move. Those are directions for improvement rather than claims of features already released to the public.
